Charity Ride
Now, while I do have a beard, and I do own a waistcoat, and I have been known to drink ale that’s quite warm, and I do have a selection of vinyl records… I’ve not ever considered myself a hipster. The beard is almost as old as I am (so not a trend thing), and whilst I do have vinyl records, I don’t have a record player that works properly anymore… oh and I hate (and I do mean hate) avocado on toast or in any other form. So, I think that thankfully means I don’t qualify.
So anyway, I’ve been meaning to do this themed rideout forever and finally I’ve pulled my finger out and sorted my registration for the event.
On Sunday the 27th of September, I’m riding solo in The Distinguished Gentleman’s Motorcycle Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men’s mental health on behalf of Movember.
This year though the event which is normally a large group event that takes place all around the globe will be very different.
For this year we’ll all be riding solo for the obvious reasons of large groups and how they don’t really suit the whole pandemic thing. I felt that this year it’s probably more important than previous years to support the charity and make a special effort to help them raise awareness and of course, money—which is in shorter supply than normal.
If you are a hipster, I’m sorry…
The charity ride supports a range of men’s health issues from prostate cancer to mental health services and suicide prevention programs. Did you know it’s generally accepted that men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons?
So, before I pay someone to press my tweed (I’m dangerous with an iron) and manage to polish my own boots, and then don my borrowed open face helmet, I’m asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
If you could share this post and raise awareness of the ride and the causes it’s supporting, that would be great. Even better would be to pop over to the donation page and make a donation of any size. This year, I think they’ll need it…
