Work from a designer called Barrett Reid-Maroney

Asteroid City

For this blog post I’d like to share something cool I’ve found on Instagram from a fellow designer. I came across the account of a type designer called Barrett Reid-Maroney and really liked what he is doing. He’s well worth checking out.

Barrett recently shared a new typeface he’s working on that is inspired by the upcoming Wes Anderson film, Asteroid City.

Wes Anderson films are known for their weird and wonderful tales and abstract backdrops, and this new typeface on Barrett’s page certainly captures the quirkiness of a typical Wes Anderson motion picture. I especially like the controlled sci-fi feel combined with elegant flowing and delicate lines.

The film itself is set in a desert littered with cacti and tumbleweeds where a series of extra-terrestrial events disrupt the activities of the inhabitants of a quaint small town in the 1950’s.

I personally love all things old-school Americana and UFO-related – which seems to feature heavily in Asteroid City – so I’m very much looking forward to seeing the film in the cinema as soon as possible (update – been and loved it…)
