Spotlight – Christina Gleave on the Isle of Man

As a graphic designer living in Wales, sometimes I feel like we’re only a drop in the vast ocean which is the rest of the design world. But then I remember that there are designers who live in much more far-flung parts of the world than I do, and that’s why I’d like to shine a spotlight this week on Christina Gleave who lives and works on the Isle of Man.

The Isle of Man is a small island in the Irish Sea and sits right in between Wales, Ireland and England – it is a self-governing island, but is supported by the United Kingdom and is a member of the Commonwealth.

Christina Gleave is responsible for the design work for countless local historical sites and attractions, which is important when the island’s population of only 84,000 grows by around 43,000 for two weeks during the annual TT motorbike races. As tens of thousands of people visit the island each year, it is Christina’s work that will communicate the island’s rich celtic history and traditions.

I think it’s really cool that despite living on an island that is only 221 square miles, Christina’s design work has a global reach and is incredibly important in preserving the island’s heritage.
