Simple Ways to Boost Your Creativity
In my career as a Graphic Designer, creating brand work, websites, advertising, animated graphics and more, I’ve come to realise that creativity isn’t just for artists or writers it’s something everyone can tap into to solve problems, brainstorm new ideas, or just to start thinking differently.
I find that there are several ways we can all get our creative juices flowing (sometimes they need a bit of a nudge), here are some of them.
Get Outdoors
One of the best ways to boost creativity is to spend more time outdoors. Nature has a brilliant way of clearing your mind and giving you fresh perspectives. Whether it’s a walk in the park or a hike in the hills (one of my favourites), being outside helps reduce stress and encourages new ideas.
Another powerful tool is mindfulness, which, yes, is an overused buzzword these days in some business environments, but bear with us… By practicing mindfulness, you can help your brain to focus on the present moment, which can lead to more creative thinking. Simple things like deep breathing, forms of meditation, or just being fully aware of your surroundings can help you let go of distractions. Taking a few minutes each day to calm your mind can work wonders for your creative output.
Hobbies
Finally, don’t forget about the importance of hobbies. Trying new activities that are outside of your usual routine can help stimulate and challenge your brain. Whether it’s painting, gardening, cooking or something more adventurous like wood turning—whatever you like really—engaging in something fun and creative helps you let go of your day-to-day worries and might even give you some brain space to breathe some fresh air into other projects.
In conclusion, boosting creativity is about giving your mind space to roam and try new things. Spending time in nature, being present or exploring hobbies are just a few simple ways to refresh your mind and think differently.
Creativity isn’t just for designers or artists, it’s something that everybody can use everyday. But it’s true, time is the usual enemy. Carving out the opportunity to practice some of these things is always difficult, but it’s really worth the effort, especially if it helps us be more creatively productive.
