Back in early summer we had the pleasure of going the Federation of Small Business (FSB) to discuss, in an FSB roundtable, the challenges facing the creative industry in Wales. There were a range of companies joining us, covering a wide breadth of disciplines within the creative field.

Apart from the deeply interesting challenges facing different organisations, it was fascinating to hear how each firm handles and responds to those challenges. To say the creative industries can be a challenging field to operate within is an understatment. But more on that another day maybe.

We were kindly invited to attend the feedback/outcome meeting with the FSB at Tramshed Tech in Cardiff. It’s not always easy to make time available like this but we feel it was beneficial to see the outcomes of the previous commitment.

Below are just some of the themes brought up during all the discussions across Wales.

Why is this so important? It may come as a surprise, but the creative industries is a growth industry with huge potential for Wales. In 2022 the sector (and this excludes freelancers) generated an mighty £3.8bn turnover, making 5.3% of total Welsh GDP. It is further estimated that in 2022 there were close to 10,500 active enterprises in the Welsh creative industries sector (this time including freelancers), employing between 68,000 and 90,000 people. 

So having our voice heard and responded to is important. We’d like to thank the FSB and the team who looked after us so well on the day for all their help. We hope something come out of this for someone within the industry, or someone looking to enter the creative feild.
